Where have we been all of your life?!

I don't know... but we have been "missing" all summer long!

This summer, Wang Furniture and California Fruitwoods picked up and moved to Santa Rosa.  Since we are super picky about making a commitment to a new store front or shop it has taken some major time at the discussion table (made by Andrew himself) to figure out where our new location will be.  I am here to say this is still undecided.

Designer and craftsman, Andrew Somawang, spent this summer trying out a new kind of art... chainsaw carving.  Inspired by the TV show "Saw Dogs", Andrew thought, "Hey!  I can do that!" and it turned out he could.  Andrew was a featured artist in the Visalia Arts Consortium Taste the Arts event in downtown Visalia.  At the show, he demonstrated with a live carving of a tiki.  

With the holidays coming around and the rain season beginning, Andrew is getting back to business with furniture and design.  We hope to post some new creations soon but for now we leave you with some of the summer's carvings.  Enjoy!

Exotic Wood Boxes

If you are like me, I take off my wedding ring before I get into the shower.  I take off my necklace before I crawl into bed. (This is Angela writing by the way not Andrew).  Many times I would just throw my jewelry onto the counter... risky.  Who knows what could happen!  If that baby falls down the sink that is going to be one expensive drop!  You know I will tear that sink apart before I accept that loss!  Luckily Andrew has solved my problem.  It is simple really.  Two words... Jewelry box.  

I am not talking about one of those cheap plastic boxes or one that my great grandma bought me for Christmas (pink floral print).  I am talking about a one of a kind exotic wood jewelry box.  A box that people walk by and ask, "What is that?! It is beautiful!".  A box that is the only one of its kind.  Literally.  The beauty of having a hand crafted jewelry box is more than skin deep.  It is an amazing thing to know that you are the ONLY person that has a box that looks exactly like it.  When Andrew hand crafts these boxes, each piece of wood is completely unique.  He doesn't make the wood fit some image in his head, the wood takes on its own shape.

These wood boxes are not only jewelry boxes.  They are a piece of living art.  They can be used for whatever you want to use them for.  You can put paperclips in the drawers if that's what you're in to.

Moving Sale!

As many of our customers may already know, Wang Furniture and the California Fruitwoods brand will be moving in the next couple of months.  Our current shop in Visalia has been very good to us!  Being featured in the local Visalia Magazine "Lifestyle", and making so many close relationships with some very valued customers has been such a blessing!  However, with new opportunities and a dream to follow, we must move on and explore our potential in another part of the state.

This will be a bittersweet journey for us!  Although we will miss all of the amazing connections we have made, creating this blog and vowing to make our webpage more active will keep us connected with everyone we have met over the years.  Our new shop will be in Santa Rosa, California (or the close vicinity since a shop has not yet been found).  This will hopefully bring forth the opportunity to find even more reclaimed woods, especially Redwood which is one of our top sellers!

Amore' Headboard

We hope everyone out there is enjoying their Friday as much as we are at Wang Furniture!  

Today we are featuring a special headboard made from salvaged fence wood.  This headboard has a little story behind it as do many of our gorgeous works of art!  

Wang Furniture owner and artist Andrew and his wife Angela were visiting some friends in Southern California, and decided to stop by the Pasadena botanical gardens at the beautiful Huntington Library.  This visit was only a few days after Pasadena had a horrible wind storm that caused a lot of damage and left their residents without power for over a week in some neighborhoods.  They decided to drive around and check out the wreckage when Angela spotted some amazing blue and white boards about to be thrown away!  They immediately started loading up the boards and knew Andrew would be able to craft something great out of them.  

Fast forward to today and here we have this king size headboard made from some of that exact wood. This wood has been kiln dried and set up to be displayed in your bedroom or guest bedroom!  Originally designed with inspiration from a Pinterest post that had the word "Love" painted on.  Andrew decided to use the word for love in Italian, "Amore".

Take this special part of Pasadena history home with you and add some Amore' to your home!

The brilliant mind (Andrew Somawang) who founded California Fruitwoods has started another branch of the California Fruitwoods family!  May we proudly present to you... drum roll please...

WANG FURNITURE!

Wang Furniture is an upscale furniture design using reclaimed wood from various kinds of trees found all over the world.  Andrew handcrafts these beautiful pieces personally and we have decided to start a blog to display his work.  We hope that you stay tuned as we post items from Wang Furniture, Big Wang Boards, and even occasional pieces from the California Fruitwoods brand.
